As part of efforts to tackle security challenges and enhance public safety across Anambra State, stakeholders from various sectors converged on Awka for a security engagement meeting chaired by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the South-East, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie.
The meeting, held at the Women Development Centre, was organized in line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police to foster dialogue and collaboration among security agencies, community leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups and other critical stakeholders across the six geopolitical zones of the country.
Addressing participants, the DIG emphasized the need for collective responsibility in combating crime and criminality, noting that security remains everyone's business. He called on residents to support security agencies with timely and credible information that would aid proactive policing and crime prevention.
Stakeholders who spoke during the session commended the initiative, describing it as a timely platform for interaction between the police and the public. They stressed the importance of trust, intelligence sharing and community participation in sustaining peace and security in the state.
The engagement also featured discussions on emerging security threats, ways to strengthen community policing and strategies for improving cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the people.
The stakeholders expressed optimism that the outcome of the meeting would contribute significantly to the ongoing efforts to maintain peace, law and order across Anambra State.
