Tragedy struck in the early hours of Thursday, August,13, 2026 as a three storey building under construction in Umuozuo area of Osisioma, Aba, Abia State collapsed leaving residents in panic mood.
According to an eye witness account,the said building was almost completed with parapet already in place before the ugly incident.
Residents have blamed the incident on poor construction materials as debris show substandard materials were used in the building.
However, there is no official report on this by the authorities as at the time of the report.
Meanwhile, there is no record of any loss of life as the tragedy happened at 3 am.

The unfortunate development has again raised serious concerns about the quality of constructions and safety of buildings not just in Abia State but generally in the country.
There are obvious questions on the approvals, regulations, quality of materials and involvement of professionals in the construction sector.
To nib the ugly scenario in the board , governments at all levels must as a matter of urgency rise up to it's duty,show political will in the building industry by insisting on quality, and bring perpetrators of this dastardly act to book.
Professional bodies in the construction sector like COREN must ensure members do the right thing and expose quacks in the building business with a view to mitigating incessant building collapses leading to wanton loss of lives and properties.
