Enugwu-Agidi Women Organization held its 2026 Annual Convention, bringing together women from the various villages of Enugwu-Agidi in a colourful celebration of unity, culture, thanksgiving, family values, health awareness and community development. The annual gathering, held on Friday, August 14, 2026, was organised under the leadership of the Chairlady of the organization, Lady Ebele Okafor, and featured a colourful march-past, cultural activities, and messages from community leaders and government representatives.

The convention opened with a colourful march-past involving women from the different villages of Enugwu-Agidi. Of particular significance was the enthusiastic participation of octogenarian and elderly women, whose presence added colour and symbolism to the event. Their participation reflected not only the continuity of the organization but also the enduring role of women across generations in preserving the traditions, values and social fabric of the community.

In her opening remarks, the Chairlady, Lady Ebele Okafor, reminded the women of their important position as pillars of the family and custodians of values. She urged them to pay greater attention to the upbringing of their children, particularly in the face of increasing social vices and negative influences affecting young people. She encouraged the women to return home and critically reassess their responsibilities as mothers, mentors and guardians, stressing that discipline, proper guidance and moral upbringing remain essential to raising responsible children and building a better society.

The convention also provided an opportunity for women from the various villages to offer thanksgiving, expressing gratitude for life, good health, family and the opportunity to witness another annual gathering. The thanksgiving session was accompanied by singing, dancing and expressions of joy as the women celebrated together. Beyond its religious significance, the session also reinforced the spirit of togetherness that has remained central to the annual convention.

Speaking at the event, the Vice President-General of Enugwu-Agidi Town Union, Comrade Emeka Ementa, who represented the President-General, Chief Pius Nwankwo, and EBU Nigeria, congratulated the women and their leadership for successfully organising the convention. He commended the organization for its contributions to community development and unity, assuring the women of the continued support and partnership of Enugwu-Agidi Town Union. He also stressed the importance of continued collaboration between the women’s organization and the Town Union in addressing issues affecting families and the wider community.

Representing the Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Clem Aguiyi Esq., was Hon. Ifunanya Nwanadile, popularly known as Ada Enugwu-Agidi and the incoming APGA Deputy Chairman for Njikoka LGA. Delivering the Commissioner’s message, Hon. Ifunanya Nwanadile called on the women to become more active participants in environmental protection, particularly through tree planting and the preservation of existing trees. She explained that trees play an important role in helping communities mitigate the effects of flooding and warned against indiscriminate tree felling. She also urged the women to promote responsible waste disposal and discourage indiscriminate dumping in homes, streets and neighbourhoods.

According to the message, environmental protection should not be regarded as the responsibility of government alone but as a collective duty requiring the participation of families and communities. Hon. Ifunanya Nwanadile further introduced the incoming councillors for Enugwu-Agidi: Hon. Chikeluo Emekwisie of Normu Village for Ward 1 and Hon. Nkechi Uchendu of Achalla Village for Ward 2. The presentation added a political and civic dimension to the convention, as the women were encouraged to remain engaged with developments affecting their community.

Another major component of the convention was a health lecture designed to provide the women with practical information on personal and family health. The session highlighted the importance of paying attention to diet and lifestyle, particularly the increasing consumption of unhealthy foods and junk foods associated with various health challenges. Participants were encouraged to make healthier food choices, seek appropriate medical attention when necessary and adopt preventive health practices. The lecture also emphasised the need for mothers and elderly members of the community to take their health seriously while encouraging healthy habits within their families.

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) also featured at the convention with a message centred on civic responsibility, national values and the role of citizens in promoting a peaceful and responsible society. The event attracted political leaders, elected representatives, aspirants, community stakeholders and other distinguished guests, including Hon. Chukwudi Oli (Oba Ezeafia), APGA candidate for DNA Federal Constituency; Hon. Chidi Ibemeka, Member representing Njikoka I Constituency; and Hon. Chukwunonso Okoye, YPP candidate for Njikoka I Constituency, among others.

The 2026 Annual Convention ultimately provided a platform for celebration, reflection, education and community engagement. From the participation of elderly women in the march-past to the joyful thanksgiving and messages on family, health, environment and civic responsibility, the gathering demonstrated the enduring role of Enugwu-Agidi women in community life. As the women marked another successful convention, the event reaffirmed their place as mothers, custodians of culture, community builders and important partners in the continued development and unity of Enugwu-Agidi.
